Mr Al-Gholmy is the Principal of the University Dental Practice. He is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon based at Queen Alexandra University Hospitals NHS Trust. At the hospital, Mr Al-Gholmy sub-specialises in Jaw-Deformity Surgery, Skin Cancer, Trauma and Dental / Facial Implant Rehabilitation following cancer and trauma. After qualifying as a Dentist in 1994, he became a Fellow of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998. He then went on to obtain his Medical Degree from Southampton University, School of Medicine in 2004. He then progressed in his training to attain the Intercollegiate Board Examination in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery allowing him to obtain his Consultant position at Portsmouth. He is the Clinical Director of the Intermediate Minor Oral Surgery for Thames Valley & Berkshire.
My Al-Gholmy is recognised by the GMC as a trainer in all aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He currently acts as Educational Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor to Dental Core Trainees and Speciality Registrars in Oral Surgery / OMFS. He has a Certificate in postgraduate medical education.
In his NHS and Private Practice he is happy to see patients for Orthognathic Surgery (jaw re-alignment surgery), dental and facial implants, management of skin cancer, management of Maxillofacial trauma and all aspects of Oral Surgery. He leads the Oral and Facial Implantology service at Queen Alexandra Hospital University and places implants for all the oncology patients treated at Portsmouth and Southampton University Hospitals.
At University Dental Practice, he currently provides all aspects of Oral Surgery. He is happy to receive referrals for all aspects of dento-alveolar surgery including impacted wisdom teeth, ectopic canines requiring exposure, all aspects of implantology and pre-prosthetic surgery including sinus lifting and bone grafting. He is happy to work collaboratively with referring colleagues if they wish to restore the implants after the surgical phase. All the above can be catered for under LA alone or with IV Sedation if required according to patient choice.
