Patient Safety
At our practice, patient safety is our top priority. It’s central to everything we do—whether we’re delivering care, setting goals, developing procedures, or purchasing new equipment. We foster a culture of openness and fairness, encouraging team members to discuss any challenges they encounter, all for the well-being of our patients.
To ensure patient safety, we:
- Adhere to the latest infection prevention guidelines, including those from NHS England.
- Use single-use dental instruments or sterilize them after each use.
- Thoroughly decontaminate work areas, including dental chairs, handheld equipment, and cupboard handles, between patients.
- Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, ensuring clinical clothing is kept clean and jewellery is restricted.
- Regularly monitor the quality of practice water, ensuring dental unit waterlines are disinfected and clear.
- Dispose of waste in line with current regulations using the proper carriers.
- Seek expert advice if a team member is potentially at risk of a bloodborne infection, ensuring they undergo an occupational health exam and follow appropriate guidelines for patient care.
- Ensure all team members are trained in safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, adhering to our safeguarding policies that are regularly reviewed and updated.
Our clinical governance system integrates risk management to proactively identify, assess, and manage risks and incidents, aiming for continuous improvement in our care and services.
The Practice Manager holds overall responsibility for the practice, supporting the team through regular meetings, training, personal development, and performance reviews. We always encourage questions, feedback, and suggestions from our patients.
